Rhodes V8 / V8 PRO

The V8 is a hyper-realistic re-creation of the Rhodes MK8 and is the first official plug-in by Rhodes.

Encompassing 30,000 samples directly sampled from Rhodes’ flagship MK8 piano, including up to 127 velocity layers, 14 articulations, mechanical noise and groundbreaking per-note editing – the V8 additionally employs a hyper-real modelling engine, providing a level of sonic authenticity never before heard in any other electric piano virtual instrument.

The V8 is a hyper-realistic re-creation of the Rhodes MK8 electric piano based on an extremely intensive sample data set taken from the very first MK8, built and voiced by Dan Goldman.

The MK8 is voiced to sound like a perfect balance between the early models and later – so it has the fatness and growl of earlier models with the clarity of the later models. The mechanical parts are designed to capture all the classic tones available from across the favourite older Rhodes eras but in one piano.

The MK8 was designed alongside the following pianos in the lab for comparison to make sure it had all the key characteristics of people’s favourite Rhodes from across the years: 1972 MK1 suitcase, 1975 MK1 88 suitcase x2, 1979 suitcase, 1980 MK2 stage, 1980 MK2 suitcase, 1984 MKV and 2010 MK7 active.

The V8 / V8 Pro must be installed on the host device, but the blob files can be saved or moved to an external hard drive.

When installing the plugin, you can select the save location of the ‘blob’ files. (The blob files are essentially where the content of the plugin is stored and are the largest files associated with the plugin).

If you have already installed the plugin, you can locate these files (and move them to an external HD) via the following file path.

Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Rhodes > Rhodes V8 Pro

The blob files are called RHODES-V8PRO_part1.blob and RHODES-V8PRO_part2.blob

Running the piano direct from the send jack (bypassing the preamp electronics) the piano sounds warm, fat, round and growly and with plenty of punch and clarity in the attacks – the preamp and effects give a lot of further sonic sculpting possibilities whilst retaining that warm, fat and growly classic Rhodes tone.
