Rhodes and Gilles Peterson have teamed up to bring you Triology, a captivating new video series that dives deep into the heart of live music. Centred around the legendary Rhodes MK8 piano, Trilogy is more than just a collection of performances—each episode is an exploration of artistry, conversation, and connection as part of the Rhodes MK8 performance series.
This series is designed to celebrate the raw energy of live music through intimate sessions and inspiring discussions with some of the most exciting musicians today. Guided by Gilles Peterson’s unique vision, Triology offers an up-close view of musicians at their most vulnerable and vibrant. The Rhodes MK8 live performance series truly captures this essence.
Episode One: Amaro Freitas
For the first instalment, we couldn’t be more thrilled to feature the Brazilian pianist and composer Amaro Freitas. Known for his genre-defying style, Amaro blends the rich rhythms of his Afro-Brazilian heritage with the free-flowing intensity of jazz legends like John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk. His debut in the Rhodes MK8 live performance series is nothing short of spectacular.
Recorded live at Gilles’ own Brownswood Basement studio in London, Amaro’s performance is a masterclass in rhythm and melody, supported by the talented David Mrakpor and Sam ‘Barrell’ Jones. Together, they create a sound that’s both dynamic and deeply moving. And the music is just the beginning. The episode also includes a candid conversation between Amaro and Gilles, touching on everything from his early years in Recife to the inspirations behind his latest record, Y’Y.
Why Triology?
With Triology, Gilles and Rhodes are aiming to reignite the magic of live music. Each episode is a reminder that, while recordings can capture notes, live performances capture something much more powerful: emotion. Set against the warm, intimate backdrop of the Brownswood Basement, the Rhodes MK8 live performance series captures musicians in their element, with the MK8 providing the sonic glue that holds it all together.
What’s Next?
The first episode sets a high bar, but the journey is only beginning. Two more episodes are lined up for release on October 14th and November 28th, each introducing a new trio of talented artists who are sure to spark your curiosity and captivate your ears.
So stay tuned and get ready to experience the Rhodes MK8 performance series in action, bringing out the best in today’s most compelling performers.
